Approximately 1:35pm
Currently the Photolab is down at my Target; it's a terrible time of the year for that too, by the way. Between apologies and my feeble attempt to fix the lab, I was assisting a guest, Shelli, at the "Prints In Seconds" kiosk out front. She couldn't figure out how to work the bluetooth on her iPhone to send a mobile picture to the kiosk to print.
In the midst of her failed attempt, she called me over to help. I don't have an iPhone, but I'm pretty tech savvy, but apparently not that tech savvy. We took the long road to go a short distance yesterday afternoon.
In the midst of transmitting pictures from her phone to mine (via Bluetooth) and from mine to the kiosk, we started talking. When my Blackberry also wouldn't connect to the kiosk, we continued talking some more while we sent them to my phone the old fashioned way (MMS) and I uploaded them to Facebook and printed them off that way.
We were talking about Springfield and how I started working for Target while I was living there; my promotion obviously resulting in my move to Arkansas, but she asked about the back-story on how I made it from Michigan to Missouri.
Hurricane Katrina was the easy answer... and so I went with it.
"I was helping out with relief efforts after college and ended up staying down there for several years, until I had a job opportunity come up in Springfield."
"Oh, so that's when you started working with Target then?"
"Well, not exactly..."
"So then what did you do in Springfield before you worked with Target?"
I blanked.
She repeated her question.
"Oh, well, I was an conference and events planner. I spoke at some different events and things until 'the economy bottomed out' in December '08. A few months after that I started with Target." For the sake of guys like Jim, Brandon and Ryan I couldn't tell her the real reason.
"I see..." she responded "So is that what you went to school for? Event planning?"
"Not exactly. I got my degree in Recreation" I swallowed hard "And I had been trying to figure out what to do, and felt like I needed to go down and help."
"So when you would travel and speak, what would you talk about?"
Her questions kept coming.
"Kid's Ministry, you know, like speaking at camps and stuff..."
"Oh I see" she laughed "I have two teenage daughters... they both need exorcisms!"
We laughed.
"So" she continued "Is that something you'd like to keep doing then, or is this the direction you're headed in now?"

I received a Facebook message on my phone:
"I can't be friends with you if you curse :( (moms rules)"

Great mom, reminds me of my own.
Brave kid.
So, I will not be swearing anymore, at least not on Facebook for everyone to read.
