Sometimes God takes things away from you not because you deserve it, but because of your dependence on it.
I wonder why certain things happen to certain people. It seems like some people catch all the breaks while others seems to have a permanent seat on the struggle bus.
I’m sure you know the type of person I’m talking about. The person who hears from the Lord; changes their job, relocates to a new town, makes new friends and burns through their entire savings in a matter of months – only to discover what they thought they were getting into is about as far from reality as a polka-dotted panda bear.
Often times it leaves them (and us) asking “what happened?” Where did they miss it? These people are supposed to be the godly ones too… but if they can’t hear from God correctly, who can? Besides, what kind of God would want a person to risk so much… and some of these people even have families to provide for!
When a child grows up, they leave their blanket or stuffed animal behind. The thing that once offered so much comfort loses its significance in light of the greater things their parents have to offer.
We serve a God who cares more about us than our security blankets, whatever they may be. For some of us it is our pride or ability, for others our personal finances; maybe its athleticism or musicality, only you know can answer that question.
As we grow in our relationship with our Father, He will call us out into an adventure that requires us to lay our blankets down, tie-up our shoes and head out into the great unknown, trusting only Him. What have you laid down for your adventure? Have you given up your right to your life? It starts there… it starts with surrender.
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matthew 16:24-26).
